So you think you are ready to test how much you have learned.
Currently, there are two kinds of questions:
- Multiple Choice
- True-False
The Multiple Choice and True-False
questions are pretty much the same as
anywhere else. The biggest difference is that the results are not maintained in
any way. The purpose of these questions is to test your knowledge and not to see
what grade you could get. There are no grades when working on your system at home
or administering a system at work. What counts is your knowledge.
The Flash Card Mode asks the questions without any answers provided. This
is good when you feel you are proficient enough not to need the prompting that multiple
choices give you. Although most Linux certification tests are multiple choices, Flash Card Mode
makes sure you really know your stuff.
As I add to the site, I will add "Fill in the blank" and
"Above and Beyond". Fill in the blank is like its real-world counterpart,
except that you really don't fill in any blanks and you get to determine yourself whether your
answer was correct or not. Often the questions will be along the lines of "Do X" and then answer a
short question about what you did, what the results were and so forth.
Above and Beyond takes you beyond what you learned. Here, we will take one of the
topics you learned about and then try to answer a question or perform a task that is on a related
subjects, but is something that was either not addressed in the necessary detail (or at all). In
this way, you stretch your knowledge "above and beyond" what is in this tutorial.
Currently, you do not have the option of selecting what kind of questions you want to
answer. Rather the questions are asked randomly. Since you are not penalized for not answering a
question, you can simply click on the "Next Question" button. However, the option of choosing the
types of questions is on my "to-do" list.
Questions are selected from topics covered in the section you are at and any sub-sections.
For example, if you selected "Networking" you will get questions on "TCP/IP", as
well. If you would
like to be tested on the entire tutorial, just go to the Table of Contents and click the
"Test Your Knowlege" link.
If you want questions on a diffent area, simply click through the menus or go
to the site map and select the area you want.
Unlike other online tests, I provide you with immediate feedback in that selecting an answer will
immediately tell you if you are correct or not. I then give you a chance to go on to the next
question or go to the section which discusses that topic.
Are you ready? Then let's go!
