i just created my first simple file share between linux and windows.. but i seem to have run into a problem and im hitting brick walls trying to find a solution in the smb.conf

i can see the debian box from the windows machine i double click it and im asked for a password and username? but i didnt specify one during the configuration. i have tried a user and root and both fail.. any help or pointing in the right direction would be great

thanks guys!

all that you need is to create user and link it to samaba server

follow these steps

useradd smbuser
smbpasswd -a smbuser --> you will be prompted to enter password

now use the username as smbuser and password from the windows machine to connect to linux box

even you can link root user as samba user

smbpasswd -a root
