Hello again (I just replied to your other post). As I previously mentioned, software of whatever variety is a tool and when you have a job to do, you will most likely choose the best tool for doing that job. As far as understanding all of the tools available, you have to try them out and practice on them to truly understand what they can do for you.

Most people have at least some experience on Microsoft-based platforms and so understand what they can do for them. Unfortunately, people also use Microsoft to define how a job should be done and don't even consider alternative (open source) methods.

One advantage for your to try Linux/open source is to gain that understanding. One of the best pieces of advice I got early on is "Don't marry an operating system". That means, don't limit your options. Try new things out. Explore. Have fun.

Alittle late, but ...

Most linux distros have a liveCD, i.e., Mandrive One, Fedora, etc.
You can try linux without messing up your window setup by downloading
a liveCD, burn it, the boot the liveCD (cold start). If you don't like take
the CD out and go back to your window world.

What's a Live CD? Rather than write out the answer, I'll let Wikipedia do it for me: Smile

Hope this helps.

Hi!
Though windows is more user friendly, but linux provides more features than windows do not have. Also, it is open source.
